Why This Site Exists

We got tired of "free" calculators that ask for an email address before showing a result, or bury the real number behind three ads and a popup. So we built calculators that just work: type a number, get an answer, done.

Everything runs in your browser. There's no account, no login, and no server collecting what you type in. If you close the tab, the calculation is gone — we never had it in the first place.

💡 No sign-up. No tracking of your inputs. Updated when tax rules change, not on a marketing calendar.

How We Make Money

Ads, and affiliate links to things like TurboTax or Betterment. If you click through and sign up for something, we sometimes get a small commission — at no extra cost to you. We don't let that change what a calculator shows. A mortgage calculator doesn't quietly favor the lender we're paid to promote; the math is the math.

Where the Numbers Come From

We build each calculator's formulas from public government sources — IRS publications for tax brackets and deduction amounts, SSA.gov for Social Security rules, individual state Department of Revenue pages for state tax rates, and the Tax Foundation for sales tax data. Where a source updates a number, we update the calculator to match.

See the Methodology page for source-by-source detail on individual calculators.

Limitations — Read This Part

These calculators give you an estimate, not a tax return. They don't know about every deduction, credit, or edge case in your specific situation — a calculator can't ask you follow-up questions the way a CPA can. State and local rates in particular can lag real-world changes if a state passes a rate change mid-year before we catch it; if a number looks off, the custom-rate field lets you override it with whatever you've confirmed locally.

⚠️ Important: These tools are for planning, not filing. For an actual tax return, use tax software or a licensed CPA. Full disclaimer →

Who Built This

USAFinCalc is maintained by a small team. We're not a large media company — when a tax bracket changes, we'd rather just fix the calculator than wait for a content review cycle.

Questions or Found an Error?

If a number looks wrong, tell us — that's genuinely the most useful feedback we get, and most fixes are small once we know what to look at.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often do you update the calculators?

Tax-related ones get checked every January when new IRS figures come out. Rate-sensitive tools like mortgage are reviewed more frequently since those numbers move throughout the year. If you spot a stale rate in between, the contact page is the fastest way to flag it and we'll verify and fix it.

Are these calculators accurate enough to file my taxes with?

No — treat them as planning estimates, not filing software. They use current IRS brackets and standard deductions, but they don't cover every credit, deduction, or edge case a real return involves. For the actual filing, use tax software or a licensed CPA.

Do you store or track what I enter?

No. All calculations run locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing you type is sent to our servers. Close the tab and the data is gone — we never had it.

How does the site make money if it's free?

Ads and affiliate links. If you click through to a partner and sign up for something, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This doesn't affect what a calculator shows — the math is the math regardless of any commercial relationship.

Where do the tax rates and numbers come from?

Federal brackets and deductions come from IRS Revenue Procedures. FICA rates from IRS Publication 15. State rates from individual state Department of Revenue publications and the Tax Foundation's annual survey. 401(k) and IRA limits from annual IRS contribution limit notices. See the Methodology page for source-by-source detail.

Why does a result look different from what my employer or CPA shows?

These calculators estimate federal income tax on the inputs you enter. They don't see your full W-2, actual withholding elections, tax credits, AMT exposure, or other income sources. A paycheck also deducts FICA — Social Security and Medicare — which the federal tax calculator doesn't include. Differences are expected; use the results for planning, not exact reconciliation.

Do these calculators work on mobile?

Yes. Every calculator is designed to work on phones and tablets — the layout adjusts automatically. No app download needed.

How do I report an error?

Use the contact page and include the calculator name, the inputs you used, the result you got, and what you believe it should be. Most fixes are quick once we can reproduce the issue.
